Advanced Training in Neurosciences - Personal Experience
There are many motivations that might lead a student to choose the area of neurosciences. This motivational variability is only possible due to the multidisciplinary nature of the course, thus bringing together students with different backgrounds and academic interests. These conditions place us, as students, in a privileged position in order to study the nervous system, both in normal conditions and in those of illness.
One of the most captivating aspects of neurosciences is its increasing social importance, as although it is not a fundamental area of science it has deep practical application. When I chose this course I wanted not only to deepen my knowledge of the nervous system and its relationship with behaviour, but also to acquire skills for the future exercising of scientific method in this area.
One should stress the important contribution given to us for having direct contact with laboratories, with access to many of the new technologies that make neurosciences an expanding field. This possibility is indeed extremely exciting, showing the research aspect inherent to this Masters course.
There are several different areas of neurosciences contemplated, bring the multidisciplinary element into the contents lectured and making it possible to form teams with different perspectives, capable of collaborating on the same research project. Therefore the modules are extremely wide-ranging, providing training in several basic areas, for a broad theoretical and methodological knowledge of the relevant areas.
This course thus focuses on the understanding of the nervous system, starting off on a lower scale both in the pharmacological field and the cell and molecular ones, until the individual as a whole, covering the full spectrum of integration necessary. It is for this reason that I believe that here visions can be formed, new eyes constructed for science, for knowledge and for the future.
