Every year, this season calls for the best in us. We want to be closer to family, friends, and often, more than receiving gifts, we feel it is a time to give, and our students are no exception. Every year, for more than 20 years, through the Students Association of the Faculty of Medicine, our students give a little of themselves to those who need it most, or to those, especially in the present context, who cannot be with their loved ones. The project is called “A different Christmas” and this year has its particularities: the two solidarity projects focus on a gesture of humanity, to be closer to those who are alone. These were the invitations given to our faculty students:
The first invitation, called “Singing at Homes and Institutions”, with registrations open until 7 December, aims to bring music and joy to the elderly and people who are furthest from their families in homes and institutions. This event will take place between 28 December and 7 January in institutions to be agreed. In addition to being open to FMUL students, registrations were extended to ESEL students and students from Madeira.
The second invitation, addressed to FMUL students, was to write a postcard or make a drawing that will be delivered this Christmas season to hospitalized patients and elderly people in homes.
We believe that these initiatives had an immediate response from our students, and that everyone felt that they are contributing to giving people, who are more fragile and isolated, a slightly warmer Christmas. Because affection is one of the best gifts we can give and receive this Christmas.
Season Greetings.
