Editorial Note
Congratulations news@fmul!
A year on it is time to take stock of this initiative that has set out a change in the FMUL’s communications strategy and has contributed to unite the institutions of the Faculty, the Hospital and the IMM, all of which are now a part of the Lisbon Academic Medical Centre.
I firmly believe that we have managed to achieve the aims we set out for ourselves in this project, namely having assumed an editorial project that is accessible to everyone and a powerful instrument for knowledge and the divulging of our Medical School.
The success of this initiative, which is recognised internally and externally, is due to everyone, so I thank everyone who has participated, and I call for the continuation of this spirit of communication, sharing and information among the whole academic community that lives and works in this vast university campus.
The year of 2010 will doubtlessly bring new challenges in this area. The creation of the Lisbon Academic Medical Centre by Law 27/10/2009 is a turning point in the organisation of Academic Medicine in Portugal and is a challenge and opportunity for the modernisation of the teaching of medicine, a new dynamic for research and qualification of the clinical medicine we practise. It is also a moment of affirming News@fmul as a privileged communications channel in this new structure, mobilising wills, stimulating synergies and creating esprit de corps; that is, sense of community among everyone and a new culture of demand and cooperation.
With the New Year there will be other problems facing our Medical School, particularly the continuation and development of many ongoing projects, which I will publicly present after appreciation of the Plan of Activities for 2010 by the Faculty Assembly, which should take place at the beginning of January.
I would also take this opportunity to, in the name of the Dean’s Office and of all the collaborators at the FMUL, thank Dr. David Xavier for all his committed and dedicated work as Secretary of the School, wishing him the continuation of a life full of personal and professional success.
For the new Coordinating Secretary, Dr. Luís Pereira, I present my best wishes for success and my confidence in his ability, professionalism, good sense and team spirit essential to the modernisation of the Faculty of Medicine.
It is therefore with trust in the collaboration, spirit of duty and dedication of all the FMUL collaborators that we will continue carrying out our university mission, for education, professional training and scientific development at the service of the community and the country.
A brief note of encouragement and support for our students, so that their passage through the faculty is a success, and to restate that the availability of the Direction and of the whole faculty in helping them to overcome the natural difficulties and my wishes for them to participate actively in the News@fmul.
In name of the Direction of the FMUL I wish to express my wishes for a Holy Christmas and a Happy New Year for all the teachers, students and auxiliary staff of this School, as well as for all the collaborators at the HSM/CHLN, the IMM and affiliated Health Institutions.
