Characterisation of First Year Students
2009-2010 Academic Year. First Year – First Time
This informative article presents some data characterising the students on the Integrated Masters in Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon who came into the first year for the first time in the academic year 2009-2010.

NB: The full number of the students who entered through the “Competition for Graduates” is included in the 1st year (some students, whose previously-obtained study cycles received accreditation or who are in a situation in which there was recognition of their professional experience, are currently distributed throughout the 2nd, 3rd and 4th curricular years).

Three hundred and fifty-four students are enrolled in the first year (first time) in the Integrated Masters Course in Medicine at the FMUL.
2. Percentage of Students by Nationality (n=354)
Portugal - 349 (98,6%)Russian Federation - 2 (0.6%)Germany - 1 (0.3%)Moldavia - 1 (0.3%)Brazil - 1 (0.3%)
3. Percentage of Students by Portuguese Districts (n=334)
The Lisbon, Santarém, Setúbal and Leiria districts of Portugal are the birthplaces of 62.3% of the first year students.
4. Age
As to the students’ ages, 60.2% are between 17 and 19. The average age is 19.4 years old.
5. Spread of Marks on Entrance (n=297)
The spread of marks for entrance is mainly concentrated in marks above 180/200 (80.9% of the students).
The average mark for entrance is 183.1, the lowest mark was 160 and the highest was 196.5.
