A day, the Feast of the Immaculate Heart, which had the presence of the Minister of Health, Ana Jorge, when the new premises for Medical Oncology and the new service of Paediatric Advanced Life Support Transportation (INEM SAV) were inaugurated.
The new HSM Medical Oncology premises are the result of an investment of about a million Euros in order to provide better conditions for doctors and professionals. Ana Jorge stressed at the inauguration that "The oncology service fundamentally brings better conditions for the patients who need care in the field of medical oncology and better conditions for the professionals to work in."
The Minister also highlighted the possibility of patients who have chemotherapy treatments to have someone accompanying them in the new premises. Luís Costa, the Clinical Director of the Oncology Service stated that this was a characteristic that, "humanizes the service."
The new INEM Paediatric Advanced Life Support unit, an ambulance that will be used exclusively for transporting children in a critical state between hospitals and paediatric intensive care units, which will have dedicated teams, was also another new service presented by Ana Jorge on the same day: “This is a paediatric transportation unit that has long been wanted by all the paediatricians who fundamentally work in intensive care, but not only...”.
Ana Jorge stated that this unit is a pioneer service for the south of the country, given that there is already a similar service in the north.
Lisbon, Santarém, Portalegre, Setúbal, Évora, Beja and Faro are the districts that will have this Paediatric Advance Life Support service.
