FMUL, and more precisely the Center for Aerospace Medicine Studies (CEMA), was featured in the Portuguese Space Agency's “Portugal Space" newsletter. The study of the human body behavior in a space environment is a matter of interest to FMUL students and Edson Oliveira, Neurosurgeon and Professor at FMUL, explained why during the interview, "Space is a very particular environment, not natural to man, and which therefore imposes new challenges on his health", which gives rise to "increased interest in the various areas of scientific knowledge". All reasons that justify the creation of the recent CEMA and its importance for the development of the discipline of Aerospace Medicine. It should be noted that this is a pioneering project at national level, but the professor believes that in the future more universities will move forward with this training.

He also highlights "a growing interest in topics related to the aerospace sector" on the part of the student community and "we have students who have gone on to develop quality scientific work at CEMA, some of which has already been presented at congresses", he said.
