At 11th AIMS Meeting the goal is to enrich the medical curriculum of the FMUL student community.

On the 30th of October, the 6th Edition, associated with the theme “ Changing the World and Medicine ”, brings to the João Lobo Antunes Grand Auditorium reports from two doctors and a researcher who seek daily to improve the World and Health in 3 scenarios: in the lab, in politics and on the ground.

The session Changing Medicine in the Laboratory will be presented by Prof. Dr. Hugo Vicente Miranda who will address the “ Role of laboratory research in the development of new therapies ”. PhD in Biochemistry and Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the NOVA Lisbon School, since 2018 he is leader of the research group DysBrainD: Dysmetabolism in Brain Diseases, at the Center for the Study of Chronic Diseases (CEDOC). Her research seeks to understand the role of metabolic regulation dysfunctions, namely type II diabetes, in the development of Parkinson's disease, in order to identify potential therapeutic targets for it.

In the context of Changing Medicine in Politics , we have Prof. Doctor Francisco George . The current President of the Portuguese Red Cross will address the “ Main Challenges for the Health of the Portuguese ”. Graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon since 1973, Prof. George specializes in Public Health. He worked at the World Health Organization between 1980 and 1991, having been a consultant in several missions. From 2005 to 2017 he was Director General of Health, and throughout his career he received numerous distinctions, including the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit, the degree of Grand Officer of the Order of Infante Dom Henrique and the Medal of Services. Distinguished from the Ministry of Health - Gold Grade.

Lastly, and to Change the Daily Life of Medicine On the Ground , Dr. Ana Paula Cruz will “ Take care of the world: the heart of humanitarian action ”. Internal medicine of General and Family Medicine, in Freamunde (Paços de Ferreira), has as main purpose to inspire the change in what she considers to be her home - the World. At the age of 26, he has collaborated with several NGOs, participating in medical volunteer missions in Mozambique and in refugee camps: on the Angolan border with the Republic of Congo, Bangladesh and Lesbos. It is actively involved in the rescue of migrants in the Mediterranean.

Finally, the Masterclass will have a roundtable, moderated by Eng. Sara Sá , journalist of Visão Saúde magazine, in which all students will have the opportunity to discuss the topics covered.
