In the wake of the new beginning, we set out in search of the perfect cadence, renewing commitments with a focus on a mission that always requires our best every day, no matter the external issues or circumstances.
We look inside, paying attention to how, gradually, we try to set the pace to get back to the stride we want to be perfect. We remember the first day of classes, as exceptional and atypical as the piece of history encompassing it, making public the words of year 6 medical student, Pedro Pinto, and sharing his authentic and emotional speech about FMUL.
We listened to the pulse of new ideas and the start of new projects at the Reynaldo dos Santos Technological Centre. At a time when farewells are made without hugs, but with due recognition of those who will remain in the memory and heart of so many who wrote a portion of their history at the FMUL and leave part of themselves in us, we said “farewell” to Professor António Barbosa.
Among loose notes, we saw the strength of the link between extremes in the person and legacy of the outgoing President of the AEFML, José Rodrigues, and we invite you to revisit the best of October, still immersing yourself in a serious reflection on the state of our Mental Health, while we hold our breath for “1 minute and 36 seconds” to absorb the experience of Pilar Burillo Simões, a young doctor who never abandoned her passion for writing, even when she crossed the “Cape of Storms” of the National Test of Access to Specialized Training.
Despite the uncertainty of the moment we are facing, we are not at an impasse and invoke once again the rigour of scientific evidence, nourishing our community with facts, because the path is “Demystifying through Science”.
What we know and what we can expect from Covid-19 is the subject of yet another dissertation by Professor Francisco Antunes, who continues to share experience and knowledge with us.
We travelled in time in an honourable tribute to the life and work of António José Pereira Flores, a notable clinician who was the genesis of Neurology and Neurosurgery in Portugal and stood out in his teaching and research career, leaving an indelible mark on teaching at the Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon.
Change is inevitable and so it happened in the start of office of the new AEFML Board, which was reborn with strength and energy, adjusting the sails to take charge and honour the mission, as always.
Together in a new edition, we remain unhappy with fear and reinvent ourselves in a time and space that know only one condition: evolution.
