Man holds prize in hand

Luís Pedro Monteiro is the winner of the 1st edition of the Research Grant on Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia , organized by the Portuguese Association Against Leukemia (APCL) and by the Portuguese Society of Hematology (SPH), with the support of Amgen Biofarmacêutica.

The internal doctor of clinical hematology is also a student of the Doctoral Program LisbonBioMed, PhD at Lisbon School of Medicine and the Institute of Molecular Medicine.

The scholarship, worth 10,000 euros, was awarded to him yesterday (September 22), and will serve to reinforce the study of new forms of treatment for patients with this specific type of Leukemia.

“In doing this study, we want to dissect the mechanics of Interleukin-7 signaling in leukemia, so that we can learn about the best way to fight this type of cancer, using a more personalized therapy”, the researcher says.
