It is precisely on the day when the Altice Group's innovation lab celebrates its 7th anniversary that Lisbon School of Medicine announces the first pilot of undergraduate education using virtual reality for its students. This is an educational initiative that aims to revolutionize the way future doctors learn and develop their technical skills through immersive and interactive experiences. It is the so-called metaverse applied to medical education. The integration of virtual reality in medical education has the clear potential to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and the practical applications of that knowledge. The opportunity of undergraduate medical education, through virtual reality platforms, offers a realistic immersive environment with the inexorable gain of hands-on experience in a completely risk-free environment for the patient. In this way students get a theoretical and practical knowledge training that makes them better suited for training with the real patient.

Simulation through virtual reality has proven to be an effective pedagogy in achieving its objectives.

Recent data show that virtual reality simulation in medical education increases knowledge retention, clinical reasonability, and student satisfaction during the learning process.

This first pilot was made possible through a philanthropic sponsorship by Altice LABS with 8 Quest 2 glasses and the respective software from the company The Glimpse Group, whose technical development team is led by the Portuguese Vasco Torres.

Congratulations Altice, our  school celebrates with your brand this impulse for the future!
