On February 7 we had the opportunity to donate blood and, with a simple gesture, help Science and, perhaps, save a life.
The initiative came from the Biobanco-IMM team, which due to the scarcity of healthy samples from women between the ages of 40 and 60, launched the campaign "Hoje Pode Fazer a Diferença!" for blood collection.
For 3 hours we were able to go to the Cid dos Santos Amphitheatre and give our contribution to Science: two vials of blood, the equivalent to 5 ml, and thus foster research.
Ângela Afonso, responsible for the preparation, storage and quality control of the samples at the Biobanco-IMM laboratory, says that "The blood collection went really well. We had a total of 25 donors which, considering that our campaign lasted only 3 hours, was great", adding that, despite the seemingly small figure, "it allowed us to meet a large share of the need for donors between the ages of 50 and 60.”
It may not seem like much, but if 25 donors made a difference, imagine if we all had contributed...
