Editorial Note
The past in the present
This is undoubtedly an issue of the newsletter that tells us about the importance of the past in the present: we have the news of the Retirement Lesson of one of FMUL’s Full Professors, Professor José Pereira Miguel; the news of the designation of a name, that of João Lobo Antunes, to the Great Auditorium of the Egas Moniz Building, the same given to the Institute of Molecular Medicine; we also have the news of the evocative session that marked this attribution. We understand that this is also our mission as a Newsletter, to evoke and register for future memory the names and facts that give us identity as an institution.
We also refer to the Beyond MEd, the former Day of Pedagogy and Medical Education (PME Day) implemented in 2014, an annual event designed to promote reflection on the reality of Education in medical schools in Portugal, with the presence of national and international speakers.
We also highlight the Mentoring Project that we mentioned in the Newsletter, which is a partnership involving the Department of Pedagogy and Medical Education (DPEM), the Students’ Association of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon (AEFML) and FMUL, and whose mission is to foster the integration of new FMUL students in the academic and social environment. In this fourth edition, as a result of the partnership between AEFML and FMUL, several new features are mentioned.
In this issue, we invite you to read the interview with Diana Prata, a researcher at the João Lobo Antunes Institute of Molecular Medicine, who told us about her work and ongoing projects.
Do not miss the opportunity to see and hear, first hand, a little of the history of the medical career and life of Professor José Fernandes e Fernandes, a Full Professor and former Director of FMUL who retired a few weeks ago.
Last but not least, we highlight one of the most emblematic days of the Faculty: Research Day, an event that has received great attention from our students, who see it as an opportunity to take the first steps in the world of scientific research.
