Reopening of the Morphological Sciences Unit
Inaugurated in May 1997, with the support of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the Morphological Sciences Unit, especially created to support the first years of the Master Degree in Medicine, offers 110 places for study, including 6 workstations equipped with a PC.
In addition to the bibliography supporting the course units, it houses important collections of eminent persons in the history of contemporary Portuguese medicine and of the FMUL, of which the following Professors stand out: J. F. David Ferreira; Victor Fontes; J. A. Serrano; Henrique de Vilhena; J. Silva Horta; A. Celestino da Costa; Sousa Martins; Sílvio Rebelo; Luiz de Pina; Maximiano Correia; Barahona Fernandes; Miguel Bombarda; Marck Athias, and Egas Moniz. Viewing these works requires authorization and prior appointment.
The reopening of the Morphological Sciences Unit took place on 13 March, after a month of works to improve the space.
It was attended by the Director of the FMUL, Professor Fausto J. Pinto, the Executive Director, Dr Luís Pereira, the Director of the Department of Administrative Management, Dr Isabel Aguiar, the Coordinator of the Library and Information Centre, and Dr Susana Oliveira Henriques, among other coordinators and students, namely representatives of the Students’ Association of the FMUL.
The Director stressed the importance of these works, which will allow the expansion of a space dedicated to students and study. He thanked the technical team involved and the employees of the Library and Information Centre and highlighted the importance of improving physical spaces in support of students.
The Morphological Sciences Unit has extended opening hours:
- Mondays to Thursdays: from 9:00 a.m. to 6 a.m. of the following day
- Fridays and eve of holidays: from 9 am to midnight
