The first report of the AIMS Meeting Organizing Committee
It is with this ideal in mind that, after the cancellation of the 11th edition of the AIMS Meeting, its Organizing Committee is committed to maintaining the spirit of the congress among FMUL students.
In view of the measures taken in March 2020 to minimize the transmission of COVID-19, the projects organized by FMUL students were cancelled. The AIMS Meeting, the annual biomedicine student congress, was one of them. However, shortly after the cancellation, the first steps were taken to prepare the AIMS Meeting 2021. And, in the same way it it transformed our day-to-day life, teaching, our relationships, the pandemic situation also imposed a profound reformulation in how the event is being held. Thus, and for the first time, work is being done on organising a congress that will take place mostly online, capable of adapting itself to the unpredictability of the current situation. The motivations, scope and determination are kept alive in each of the 25 members of the Organizing Committee.
Facing this change as an engine for growth and innovation, it is with great pride that the Organizing Committee presents yet another edition of the AIMS Masterclasses, the daily event that precedes and announces the AIMS Meeting. This year, the AIMS Masterclasses will take place on 7 November and will feature 3 inspiring lectures on the topic “Healthcare for All: Everyone, Everywhere”. All FMUL students will be able to register and participate in this opportunity for reflection on the existing inequalities in access to, and provision of health care.
The event’s panel has 3 doctors who fight daily against these disparities and present them in different contexts: in the care provided to the LGBTI+ community, pregnant women and in response to multiculturalism, in a world that sees itself increasingly as a Global one.
Students can also register for a practical or theoretical-practical workshop, where they will have the opportunity to refine their skills and expand their knowledge about their areas of interest.
It is with this event that the AIMS Meeting is reborn in a format adapted to the demands that the pandemic situation imposes, maintaining the commitment to offer its participants an experience with the quality with which the congress has accustomed them.
