The first people standing kept some distance from the wall and watched attentively, drawing their own conclusion from what they saw in the mirror.
Bruno Mendes explained that this was precisely the intended effect. Osir's work, which is portrayed in the mirrors on one of the main walls of Santa Maria Hospital, shows a scientist, a nurse, a doctor, a baby and two users. There is also a heart and a stethoscope. The mirrors, gathered in various garbage points and industrial containers in the city, pay homage to all health professionals and users who lived through the recent pandemic.
The work, which took 810 hours of painstaking effort, was a request by the Board of Directors of the Northern Lisbon University Hospital Centre and an original idea of its communication advisor, Pedro Marques.
In order to applaud the completion of the work entitled “Care”, Daniel Ferro, Chairman of the Board of Directors of CHULN invited the medical teams and all representatives of the Lisbon Academic Medical Centre, thus bringing together the Director of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon and Maria Mota, Director of the iMM. As he likes to stay out of the limelight and not give his work a face, Osir was represented by Bruno Mendes, responsible for public statements and also an artist, as he himself worked in the execution of the work.
The occasion brought together art and solidarity towards others, through general expressions of gratitude and the intrigued look of those who passed by.
"I have a feeling that this work will be for Lisbon like what happens in some big cities in Europe" Daniel Ferro
"This is an emotional work, looking at these images shows a sensitivity that makes it more than a just mural" Fausto Pinto
"I thank Osir for making Science so present" Maria Mota
"Thank you to all who came to save others and left their families to be here" Bruno Mendes
"Many dreams were cancelled and many hugs postponed. We must reflect about ourselves and others" Osir
