IV Postgraduate Course in Human Sexuality
The Postgraduate Course in Human Sexuality, in collaboration with the Portuguese Society of Clinical Sexology, aims to provide students with a theoretical understanding of various topics within the field of sexology. The course adopts an integrative perspective, drawing from multiple scientific disciplines, with a focus on the biopsychosocial and developmental approach to human sexuality in various contexts.
The goal of the course is to develop and promote theoretical knowledge.
Objectives
By the end of the course, students are expected to:
- Contextualize the study of human sexuality from a biopsychosocial perspective;
- Recognize basic concepts used in the study and practice of Human Sexuality;
- Identify the multidisciplinary nature of the study of human sexuality, recognizing different disciplinary areas that study the expression and determinants of human sexuality;
- Identify the evolutionary precursors of human sexuality;
- Describe milestones in psychosexual development and gender identity;
- Identify the main contexts for formal practice in human sexuality (e.g., education, healthcare, forensic);
- Describe the models that guide practice in these areas (e.g., education, healthcare, forensic);
- Explain the relevance of the biopsychosocial approach to human sexuality in the context of psychopathology (including sexual dysfunctions), psychopharmacology, and sex therapy;
- Identify the impact of different clinical situations on human sexuality (e.g., onco-sexology);
- Recognize sexual rights as human rights, acknowledging diversity as integral to sexual experience.
Taget Students
- Professionals in the fields of Medicine, Psychology, Nursing, and other health-related disciplines; Educators; Professionals in the fields of Social Sciences, Humanities, and other relevant fields (e.g., arts and others).
- Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from a program accredited by A3ES or a foreign degree recognized as equivalent by a Portuguese higher education institution.

Application period: August 21 to September 15, 2024
Eligible applications will be ranked by order of arrival.
Applicants meeting eligibility criteria, with complete documentation, will be ranked by the order of application submission until the available spots are filled. The remaining applicants will be placed on a waiting list.
If there are cancellations or failure to meet the registration deadlines, the next applicant on the waiting list will be admitted.
The registration process, following the ranking of applications and payment of tuition fees, will take place from September 23 to 27, 2024. Acceptance of course schedule, attendance and evaluation policies, and other information as outlined in the course regulations is required.
Upon admission, the first installment payment will be made between September 23 and 27, 2024.
Registration period: September 30 to October 4, 2024.
If registration is canceled, no refund of payments will be issued. The cancellation request should be submitted through the postgraduate services via email at posgrad@medicina.ulisboa.pt
Training Schedule
The course will take place on Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM and from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
