The first session of the Exploratory Conferences Autumn Cycle, an initiative of the Institute of Environmental Health (ISAMB), took place on 23 October with a full room on the topic of intelligent governance, led by Dr Carla Gonçalves Pereira, CEO of SInASE.
The smart governance of health organizations was the motto for the start of a cycle of leadership conferences. This governance model challenges health professionals and decision-makers to choose community-driven health and welfare management, taking into account the needs and requirements of a new consumer of health resources. And who is this “new consumer of health resources”? It is someone who actively collaborates in the health decision making process, which makes choices about which health services he/she wants to use, according to his/her health and wellness needs and associated costs. This leads to the transition from person-centred health care to “patient-led health”.
In general terms, this new governance model involves collaboration between the various health and welfare providers, involves citizens and health service users, is regulated by community actors and is based on adaptive policies. In this model, the role of technology and innovation is evident and there were several examples presented by our guest, based on what is already happening in other countries - smart cities, portable devices that allow, for example, cancer patients to have access to home chemotherapy treatments and virtual reality environments that allow doctor-patient interaction when in different physical locations, among others.
Dr Carla Gonçalves Pereira is currently CEO of SInAse. She studied International Economics at Lusíada University and has a Master Degree in Quality Management from Universidade Aberta. She is an auditor, certified trainer and member of the Technical Committee from APQ - ISSO/TC 309 “Governance of organizations”. She has also recognized experience in digital transformation, research, innovation and modernization in the education, social economy and health sectors.
The Exploratory Conferences Autumn Cycle will be back on 20 November with a session on Governance and Leadership, led by Eng. Luis Alves Monteiro, former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Santa Maria Hospital, for students, researchers, lecturers, and health and health management professionals.
We hereby invite the whole community to participate.
