On 20 October, the Professor of Gastroenterology at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon was elected vice president of the United European Gastroenterology (UEG), thus becoming the first woman to ever take up this position.
Director of the University Clinic and a gastroenterologist, specializing in Hepatology, she is also responsible for coordinating the Faculty's Nutrition Laboratory.
Founded in 1992, the United European Gastroenterology is a non-profit organization that combines European societies concerned with digestive health, representing a total of over 30.000 specialists from all areas of Gastroenterology. This organization aims at developing prevention, diagnosis and treatment measures, through the connection of its professionals and with a view to the development of new research methodologies.
