The Direction of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon offers its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Professor José Manuel Cortez Pimentel, who passed away on October 7, 2018.

Retired Full Professor of the FMUL, Professor José Manuel Cortez Pimentel was Director of the Pathological Anatomy Department of the Faculty and the Santa Maria Hospital from 1978 to 1993. Successor of Jorge Horta, he was also one of the main disciples of F. Wohlwill. Throughout his professional career in the area of anatomo-pathology, he devoted special attention to the anatomo-pathology of pulmonary diseases, and was a pioneer in identifying some of these anatomo-clinical entities.
