II Refresher Course on Tuberculosis and AIDS
Faculty of Medicine of the Eduardo Mondlane University,
Maputo - Mozambique, 14 - 17 July 2009
Within the protocol agreement signed between the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon (FMUL) and the Faculty of Medicine of the Eduardo Mondlane University (FMUEM) the II Refresher Course on Tuberculosis and AIDS took place in Maputo, Mozambique, from the 14th to 17th of July 2009. The course was jointly organized by the two university institutions, from Portugal and from Mozambique, with the participation of 123 health technicians.

The teachers were specialists invited from several different teaching and care institutions from Portugal and from Mozambique.

This II Refresher Course on Tuberculosis and AIDS was public and privately sponsored by the FMUL, FMUEM, Eduardo Mondlane University Foundation, Santa Maria Hospital, Ministry of Health, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Merck Sharp & Dohme, Janssen-Cilag Pharmaceuticals, and Gilead Sciences. At the meeting there was the divulging of the Programme of Continuous Medical Training in Infectious Diseases (2009-2010), within the scope of the Masters Course in Emerging Infectious Diseases and the training Period in Infectious Diseases and Intensive Care, at the University Clinic of Infectious and Parasitical Diseases, aimed at two medicine graduates from Mozambique, which is supported by an overall financing of € 30,000 with the support of Gilead Sciences.
Under the protocols signed between the FMUL, the Agostinho Neto Hospital, in the City of Praia, Cape Verde, the Ayres de Menezes Hospital, in St Thomas City, in St Thomas and Prince Islands, and the FMUEM, 12 students from the 4th year (2008-2009) of that faculty will carry out a clinical tutorial training period this September. This training period is financed by study grants from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
