Francisco Belo receives sports scholarship
Francisco Belo, a student of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon, is part of a list of 9 Portuguese student athletes who won scholarships with the unit value of 1000 euros. The 6th-year student won a gold medal in Athletics, in the discus throw competition at the 2017 Summer Universiade in Taipei, and is now receiving a scholarship with an amount equivalent to the tuition fees paid in Public Higher Education Establishments.
These Education scholarships promoted by Jogos Santa Casa/FADU (Academic Federation of University Sports), aim to reward athletes who achieved the best results in the Universiades and, at the same time, had a good school performance in 2016/2017.
Athletics, Judo, Tennis, Artistic Gymnastics and Volleyball are represented in these nine Education Scholarships. All the athletes obtained diplomas, as they were ranked in the top eight.
Samuel Barata, Mariana Esteves and Diana Abrantes, all students from different faculties of the University of Lisbon, were also awarded scholarships.
The Scholarships award ceremony will be held on February 7, at 3:00 pm, at the National Sports Museum, with the presence of the Ombudsman of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, Edmundo Martinho, the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, João Paulo Rebelo, and the President of the FADU, Daniel Monteiro.
