A Full Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon who retired last November, José Pereira Miguel now assumes the position of President of the General Council of the Higher College of Nursing of Coimbra.
His vast cv includes the positions of Director of the Institute of Preventive Medicine and Public Health and of the Institute of Environmental Health. Between 2001 and 2005, he was Director General of Health, High Commissioner for Health and President of the Dr Ricardo Jorge National Institute of Health.
José Pereira Miguel was also honoured in 2015 with the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Portuguese Republic for his services to the community.
His election to the General Council of the College on 5 December had the voting of 25 members: "seven external personalities of recognized merit, 14 lecturers and researchers, three students and one non-teaching member of staff".
José Pereira Miguel thus returns to the house where he had already collaborated in the 2009-2013 mandate.
In addition to defining the institution's general policies, his functions include electing the President of the Higher College of Nursing of Coimbra, which is scheduled to take place until April 2018.
