EMPHATIC PHYSICIANS NEEDED
Empathy is a huge component of a satisfying physician-patient relationship, and cultivating this "quality" is one of the learning objectives proposed by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) for all American medical schools. Therefore, it is important to examine what is meant by empathy and how it correlates with medical schools.
In this study, empathy scores were associated with clinical competence and gender, but they were not matched with performance on objective exams such as the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), and Steps 1 and 2 of the US Medical Licensing Examinations (USMLE). Further studies on this topic are needed to truly understand the role that empathy plays in medical education in order to train more competent clinicians.

STUDY
MOODLE IN PROBLEM-BASED LEARNING
In an educational environment where increasingly there are more IT tools, it is important to adapt teaching strategies to the new technologies. Platforms such as Moodle may be important in making teaching models more flexible and dynamic.
For example, in implementing educational strategies that require small classes - a situation that is not always possible in our Faculty - such as Problem Based Learning, this can be an important asset.
At present, the Faculty’s Moodle platform is essentially used to access resources made available by lecturers. However, the study below examines their usefulness as a collaborative medium for solving clinical problems under Problem Based Learning. This can be an important contribution to the dynamism of teaching in the FMUL.

STUDY
THE ETHICS OF CARING
The ethics of caring, despite being a subject discussed by philosophers, has not been systematically applied in the fields of medical ethics and education. Based on receptivity (i.e., empathy and compassion) towards someone and on taking responsibility for others, the ethics of caring has particular relevance in medicine. Caring guides doctors to always defend patients and to maintain a therapeutic relationship with them when having to deal with, and resolve ethical dilemmas.
This study discusses the philosophy behind the ethics of caring and examines three issues that arise in this context: receptivity, taking responsibility, and creating an educational environment that promotes this care.
