Vitor Machado Gil, President of the Portuguese Society of Cardiology
Vitor Machado Gil, Invited Assistant Professor at the FMUL and coordinator of the Cardiovascular Unit of Hospital Lusíadas Lisboa, is the Elected President of the Portuguese Society of Cardiology (SPC) for the 2017-2019 biennium, succeeding João Morais, Director of the Cardiology Service of the Hospital Center of Leiria.
This election was held by the SPC General Assembly, which took place on the penultimate day of the Portuguese Cardiology Congress.
It was the first election resulting from the amendment to the SPC Statutes carried out by the outgoing President. This amendment allows, in the words of Miguel Mendes, "to value and strengthen the Society", statinge that this model places greater value on self-nomination vis-à-vis the internal nomination of a candidate - "it is totally different for members to present their candidacy, indicating in a programmatic letter their main objectives and vision for the mandate”, declared the outgoing President.
