University of Lisbon Prize 2008/2009
The public award ceremony for the University of Lisbon Prize 2008/2009 took place in the Noble Salon of the Chancellery on the 11th of May 2009, with the recipient being Doctor Filipe Duarte Santos, Full Professor at the University of Lisbon Faculty of Sciences.
The University of Lisbon Prize, set up with the support of the Banco Santander Totta, aims at distinguishing and rewarding a Portuguese or foreign personality working in Portugal for at least five years, with recognised scientific and/or cultural merit, who has contributed notably towards the progress and aggrandisement of Science and/or Culture and towards the international projection of Portugal. The prize is worth twenty-five thousand euros.
The laureate in this third edition of the University of Lisbon Prize was chosen, among other aspects, due to the quality of his long academic career, which has been nationally and internationally recognised, in the areas of Environment and Sustainable Growth, and for his contribution to the theoretical support that is at the base of public policy in these issues.
In the same ceremony, the engineer José Correia da Cunha, was granted the University of Lisbon Medal, for his leading role in the Public Environment Policies in Portugal.
