Swearing-In Ceremony of the Chancellor of the University of Lisbon
On the 21st of May the Chancellor of the University of Lisbon, Professor António Nóvoa took the oath for his post.
In the speech opening this ceremony, which was held in the Aula Magna of this University, the President of the General Council, Dr. Henrique Granadeiro, started out by saying that “this act of investiture of the Chancellor of the University of Lisbon (…) is a pioneering and hitherto unknown event. Pioneering because it is the first one that is being completed within the reform process outlined in the RJIES and complementary regulations. Hitherto unknown because it is the first time that personalities external to the academic bodies have intervened in the defining of the guiding lines of the university, in the setting up of its governing bodies and above all in the electing of its chancellor (…)”.
Now as the Chancellor of the University of Lisbon, Professor António Nóvoa re-stated his commitments to the institution: the first commitment, based on a new concept of public service, of public responsibility; the second to the students; the third to scientific creation; and the fourth to the modernization of management.
At the end of his speech he thanked the outgoing chancellery and presented the new team which will accompany him during this term of office.
The ceremony ended with the presenting of salutations to the new chancellor.
