Researcher Maria Manuel Mota was awarded the Pessoa Prize 2013 (27th edition).
A scientist at the Institute of Molecular Medicine and a renowned expert in the study of malaria, she now has her work honoured with one of the most prestigious prizes awarded in our country.
The Pessoa Prize is a joint initiative of Expresso newspaper and bank Caixa Geral de Depósitos. It totals 60 thousand euros and aims to honour individuals in the fields of culture, the arts or science for prominent work done in Portugal in a given year.
The panel of this edition consisted of Francisco Pinto Balsemão (president), Faria de Oliveira (vice president), António Barreto, Diogo Lucena, Eduardo Souto Moura, João Lobo Antunes, José Luis Porfírio, Maria de Sousa, Mário Soares, Rui Magalhães Baião, Rui Vieira Nery and Viriato Soromenho Marques.
