More And Better
Hospital for the Little Ones - 2011 Edition
This year, the Student’s Association of the Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon organized, once more, the event “Hospital for the Little Ones”, which was held on 21-26 November at the Canteen of the Social Services.
This project, initiated by the European Association of Medical Students, has had the participation of several countries, such as Sweden, Germany, Austria, Croatia, and the United Kingdom.
Through a representation game, this initiative aims to reduce the anxiety that children feel in the presence of a health professional. On the other hand, it is intended that future health professionals use their knowledge to help children in a pedagogical and fun way appropriate to their ages, so that they lose their fear of “white coats”.
During the event, children are received in a waiting room, where some games and educational games take place. The “patients” (the dolls children bring with them) are referred to a screening room to be examined by “health professionals”, who place a coloured ribbon on them with their names on. They are then taken to Consultation, the Imaging Laboratory, the Operating Room, and to the Treatment Room. In addition, there are also the Dental Medicine and Nutrition Consultations, as well as a “Pharmacy”. Children can validate their visitor cards at each of these stations and receive several gifts related to the areas in question. At the end children receive a participation certificate and are offered a snack.
This year, the tenth edition of this Hospital for the Little Ones was another success.
