Firstly, I would like to congratulate my colleagues in the team who are responsible for the Newsletter of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon (FMUL), as well as all those who have worked in it from its first edition.
The work and dedication mirrored in each of the editions deserve utmost praise, the same applying to the capacity all these individuals have to simultaneously combine their own work with this project, which I believe cannot be an easy task.
Although it came as a surprise, I am very proud to accept the invitation to join FMUL’s Newsletter team. I very much hope I will be able to contribute to continuing an excellent work, and I assure you I will do my best.
Despite the fact I have never worked directly with any of the members of this team, I fully acknowledge their great professional value. The teamwork spirit could not be better, and perhaps that is the “key” to the success of this project.
The Newsletter enables FMUL to share privileged information at several levels, as all of its editions rely on the collaboration of excellent professionals. Accordingly, I strongly believe that investing in this ambitious project is paramount, and I intend to contribute to the best of my ability.

I was surprised, but above all very pleased, to be invited to join the News@FMUL editorial team.
Having been involved in FMUL’s International Cooperation for two years, a job so focused on the exterior, this gives me the opportunity to look differently at this institution, which is increasingly becoming more dynamic, with a panoramic overview of our society and current affairs, as well as of the national and international scenarios that affect us.
A newsletter is a privileged form of communication. It is privileged because it is free of charge, accessible, easy to view, global and instant. It pleases me very much to think that the work produced here may be read “here and there”, anytime and anywhere. This is the idea that thrills me the most.
The newsletter team is formed by outstanding people, and I am very proud to be given this chance to be involved in this project. I was not expecting this honour, and I take the opportunity to thank all members of the team for their trust in me.
To be involved in such a stimulating project makes me feel more active and participative. These are new challenges that will force me to go beyond myself. I confess this is the first time I participate in the edition of a publication. It is a delightful touch of modernity to add to my list of professional experiences.
I am sure I will learn a lot with and from this experience, and I am quite looking forward to it. I hereby assure you that my commitment will be proportional to my wish to learn, but disproportional to my prior preparation to do it. The future is unknown and I hope to be up to this challenge. However, it is our fascination of the unknown that gives us the courage to go further

A privileged communication tool, the Newsletter allows us to go further, overcome physical barriers, and reduce geographical distances. In addition, it confers visibility to FMUL, which we increasingly cherish as being part of all of us.
From the onset, these are the valid reasons for accepting the kind invitation made to me. Being part of the Editorial Team is another enthralling challenge that FMUL offers me, in addition to the many others that I have addressed with utmost satisfaction.
As it is formed by a multidisciplinary, competent and professional team, I believe that this challenge will turn into a great opportunity for sharing experiences, acquire knowledge and, above all, for strengthening team work spirit.
I cannot conclude without thanking colleagues from the Editorial team, in particular, for their invitation and support during this adapting stage, and I congratulate them for the work carried out so far.
My deepest thanks go also to the Library-IDC, which have been my core guiding principles in my personal and professional life.

The Newsletter project unquestionably bears witness not only to the change and technological policy adopted by FMUL in the last years, but also to the commitment of all those who were involved in its origin, and of all the people who continue to believe and invest in collective effort for the sake of a shared cause.
