SPUL has a dream … and the Project comes alive!
The setting up of a multi-service and multi-function online platform enabling students, lecturers, non-academic staff, and citizens at large to deal with all types of issues without wasting time and the need to physically go to several places has been one of the biggest dreams of the Shared Services of the University of Lisbon (SPUL) right from the onset.
To speed up processes… to do more for less… all those goals, which are part of SPUL’s mission, will now be reinforced with the setting up of the Multi-service and Multi-function Single Counter of the University of Lisbon (BU-UL).
This innovative project, not only for the university but also in terms of National Public Administration, aims to strengthen the services provided by the institution through the online centralization of all the services offered by the several units. Accordingly, users will be able to deal with all matters related to them on campus through a single platform and from anywhere with Internet connection.
Through a notification system, users will have access to all kinds of activities and tasks, and will be able to make requests to all units in which they work. When accessing the platform, they will be able to view their UL profiles and thus manage their activities as lecturers, students or non-academic staff, at the institution.
Among others services, the platform will enable users to deal with documentation regarding diplomas and certificates, ask for maintenance, deal with matters related with the Human Resources and Financial Departments, check or submit subject grades, make bursary payments, check salary payments, and make enrollments and applications.
This project will interconnect all units, although they will not cease to be autonomous. Accordingly, when it becomes necessary to request a document issued by the Faculty of Humanities, for instance, the request can be made at, and issued by, another unit where the user may be, which means that going specifically to the Faculty for that purpose will no longer be necessary.
With this project, SPUL intends to increase the efficiency of service providing and also dematerialize internal and external communication to better interact with the surrounding milieu, namely graduate students, employers and the civil society.
It has now been possible to fulfill this dream. The application for funding submitted by the Shared Services to the Administrative Modernization Support System (SAMA) has been successful.
This funding will enable us to develop, leap forward and showcase the University of Lisbon as a model to be followed, not only by other higher education institutions, but also by the entire national Public Administration.
