In this section we continue to divulge online resources, which may be personal web pages, blogs, institutional portals, etc. We shall give preference to those of simple and intuitive use, preferably free of charge. A large part will be dedicated to the medical sciences.

Hoax-Slayer
«Hoax-Slayer is dedicated to debunking email hoaxes, thwarting Internet scammers, combating spam, and educating web users about email and Internet security issues.» We all receive emails with deceitful information daily, on a large variety of topics, such as health, technology, finance etc., drawing our attention to the “deadly perils” of leaving a plastic bottle in the freezer, or stating it is easy to find the “cure” for cancer by following a balanced diet. This deceiving information is even sent to us by our most privileged contacts. This site is dedicated to unveiling these “Internet myths” (hoaxes) and train Internet and email users, warning them about the dangers of spam and demystifying several hundreds of well-known situations.
Medical Products and the Internet: A Guide to Finding Reliable Information - WHO
The title of the first chapter of this publication, which is available online and is published by the World Health Organization, defines its overall intent, which is also the reason we suggest this resource: «The internet is a valuable source of information, but be sure you know and trust the source».
Indeed, this is an electronic site that may be of assistance to you in finding relevant and trustworthy information and content on the Internet, from a critical perspective.
Google Translate
Among all the online resources available at Google, this one allows you to automatically translate a piece of text, the entire content of an electronic page, or even upload a word document, among other formats, for subsequent translation. The languages available for automatic translation include, besides English, Portuguese, French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Arabic, and Latin. However, please note that despite the fact that automatic translation has come a long way since its almost laughable inception, the results obtained are still rarely legible, which is particularly perceptible when languages are not close to each other. The final language is almost harmed, the same applying to meaning in context. Still, it is a very useful tool, which is already part of Google’s browser, Chrome. Other popular automatic translation websites include the classic Yahoo-Babel Fish.

Maybe it is a paradox that one of the first uses of the so-called ICTs was the possibility to access knowledge produced in past times from a personal PC, namely through the digitalization of valuable collections of antique books, of which the project Google Books, is an example, albeit controversial. Its partnership with some of the largest libraries in the world allowed Google to mass digitalize millions of books.
Here we suggest that you become acquainted with the Digitalized Collections of the Library- Documentation and Information Centre of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon, which includes works by Amato Lusitano and Manuel Constâncio, among others.
