UNITE !, the European University in which ULisboa is integrated, is looking for graduate or postgraduate students in Engineering or Life Sciences / Biology to participate in the INSPIRED 2020 project, the Interstrellar Re-factory promoted by the Technical University of Darmstadt. This is a unique opportunity to participate in an interdisciplinary research project. Teams are international and multidisciplinary. By participating in this Project you will have the opportunity to experience new approaches in educational terms and acquire new personal and professional skills.


Recipients? - Graduated or post-graduated students from the University of Lisbon, in the areas of Engineering and Life Sciences / Biology

How? - Online application until 7th February 2020

Documents required for the application (in English):

  • Academic Record Transcript
  • Qualification Certificate (only for students already graduated)
  • Motivation letter (maximum 1 page)
  • Citizen card or passport (valid for at least 6 months from the end of the program)


When does the program take place?

From 30th March

  • Type of teaching: distance learning
  • Duration: approx. 10 weeks
  • Format: Dossier of weekly content

15th June to 3rd July

  • Type of teaching : On-campus at TUDarmstadt
  • Duration : 3 weeks
  • Format : Project teams, practical classes and visits


Associated costs? - Participation costs are estimated at 1,800€. The 10 ULisboa students selected will benefit from a scholarship that includes travel, accommodation and participation in the project.

Project's goal? - The International Project Week for Interdisciplinary Research-oriented Digital Learning is subject to the theme “Interstrellar Re-factory” and aims to present solutions that contribute to a multifunctional and flexible system that guarantees the sustainability of space exploration trips.

The preparation phase, from 30th March to 14th June, consists of sharing information, in an e-learning format, in order to offer participants an overview of the skills needed to develop work in international teams.

From 14th June to 3rd July, students develop the project with interdisciplinary teams at TU Dasmstadt . At the end of the project there is a session to present the results.

In the last week of their stay in Darmstadt, participants have the opportunity to gain insight into the practices of bio-engineering companies based in Germany, as well as to visit the European Space Operations Center

Number of credits: 6 ECTS awarded after the completion of all tasks.

UNITE! It is a network of the University Network for Innovation, Technology and Engineering, coordinated by Technische Universitat Darmstadt (Germany), of which the University of Lisbon is part, together with Aalto University (Finland), Grenoble Institute of Technology (France), KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden), Polytechnic University of Catalonia (Spain) and Polytechnic University of Turin (Italy).
