The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon (FMUL) and the Lusíadas Associação Completar de Empresas (A.C.E.) signed a collaboration protocol, in the board of FMUL, with a view to conducting joint activities and establishing partnerships in the field of education (under and postgraduate) and in the areas of research and clinical innovation.

The establishment of this new partnership was marked by the presence of Professor Fausto J. Pinto, Director of FMUL, Dr Vasco Antunes Pereira, CEO of Lusíadas, Dr Pedro Gonçalves Pereira, CFO of Lusíadas, Doctor Eduarda Reis, Chief Medical Officer, Dr Cláudia Silveira, Director of the Lusíadas Knowledge Centre, and Professor José Melo Cristino, President of the Scientific Council of FMUL.

Both institutions intend to converge on a common vision with regard to the development of teaching, research and innovation for excellence in the provision of health care, so the need to enhance scientific and pedagogical capacities, within a framework of mutual cooperation, is an initiative that, according to the words of the President of Lusíadas A.C.E., Vasco Antunes Pereira, “should have taken place earlier”.

Soon after the signature, the representatives of each Institution exchanged words of thanks, and the President of Lusíadas gave the guarantee that all efforts will be made to “establish a protocol that honours us (…) We hope it will be the first of many years of collaboration. This Protocol will certainly be an umbrella for the set of other activities that we will conduct in the future”.

The Director of FMUL, Fausto J. Pinto, returned the honours by stating that “on the part of the Faculty of Medicine, it is with great pleasure that we celebrate this protocol that fits perfectly with what has been the strategic development of the Faculty and the establishment of partnerships with entities of Lusíada’s level.”

In the end, both made a mutual promise to deepen this collaboration with work, contributing to the good of the community "which is who we all serve, and we now have a joint responsibility to honour this commitment" - according to Professor Fausto J. Pinto.
