The 66th anniversary of HSM was celebrated with the webinar “Hospital and Academy: Looking for a future answer” organised by the Portuguese Association for Hospital Development. This session was moderated by Guilherme Victorino, Professor at Universidade Nova and Director of Nova Innovation & AnalyticsLab. Daniel Ferro, President of the Board of Directors of the Northern Lisbon University Hospital Centre,  Fausto J. Pinto, Director of FMUL and Maria do Carmo Fonseca, President of the iMM João Lobo Antunes participated in this session.

As for the teams of frontline professionals in the fight against Covid-19, Daniel Ferro says that “during this period, there were countless professionals who gave all, went to the limit. People do it without complaining, but we know that they are exhausted and tired from the period when they have been under great pressure. This is a sign that they believe that their work is imbued with a strong sense of mission.”

Fausto J. Pinto recalled that “in 24 hours, a system of remote classes was set up that allowed to maintain some type of training throughout the several years of the degree”. For him, the need was not “to compromise the training of a whole generation of future doctors”.

According to Carmo Fonseca, it has become “obvious, with this pandemic, that we must be able to innovate. Innovation is a product of a great investment, a great silent work. Suddenly, and when necessary, society turns to scientists and asks for an answer. Scientists can only answer if, in fact, they have had years of hard work”.
