Biographical note

Mário Ramirez completed his training in Applied Chemistry at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa and his PhD at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa and The Rockefeller University in New York. He is Professor of Microbiology at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon and currently serves as vice-president of the Scientific Council and coordinator of the Scientific Committee of PhDCAML at the same faculty. He is responsible for a Research Group at the João Lobo Antunes Institute of Molecular Medicine, treasurer of the "ESCMID Study Group for Genomics and Molecular Diagnostics" and member of the Programming Committee for the annual meeting of the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, as well as treasurer of the "Immunizations and Vaccines" study group of the International Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapeutics.

Epidemiology of streptococcal infections, genomics and molecular diagnostics, as well as bioinformatics.
