The BIAL Award for Clinical Medicine 2020 distinguished a team coordinated by Teresa Coelho, Director of the Neurophysiology Service of the Porto University Hospital Centre, with the work “Familial Amyloid Polyneuropath (FAP) in Portugal and in the world: from fatal disease to chronic disease with preserved quality of life”.
The winning work resulted from a collaboration between the two national reference centres for FAP. Isabel Conceição, from the Northern Lisbon University Hospital Centre, Mónica Inês, professor of Health Econometrics at the Higher Institute of Economics and Management Studies (Instituto Superior Economia e Gestão) and of Pharmacoeconomics at Lusófona University. Mamede de Carvalho, Deputy Director of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon, and João Costa, from Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon make up the team led by Teresa Coelho.
