CARDIOVASCULAR CENTRE OF THE UNIVERSITY OF LISBON (CCUL)
The mission pursued by the Centro Cardiovascular da Universidade de Lisboa – CCUL is to contribute to the knowledge of the Cardiovascular System in health and disease, through interdisciplinary research, allowing the translation of basic knowledge into clinical practice, in order to ensure a decisive intervention in the prognosis, care and quality of life of patients, organise to develop disruptive innovation and ensure leadership in the training of the next generation of scientists.
The CCUL’s current strategy is to build, in parallel with the goals of the Service, a tangible and mature translational research platform for Portugal, which is effective in cardiovascular sciences, based on pillars of excellence in clinical and basic sciences, integrated into the broad research strategy of the Service and in line with the goals of the national health service.
The dedication and commitment of the researchers of the Cardiology Service and its network of partners, combined with a solid strategic and structural basis, will contribute to re-position and expand Portugal’s role in cardiovascular sciences, with direct benefits for the scientific community and for patients.
The CCUL, which has supported scientific research since 1980, currently relies on 58 researchers, 23 of which are integrated Researchers.
