The Faculty of Medicine is committed to the development of scientific research in Biomedical Sciences and Clinical Medicine. To this aim, FMUL is one of the core founders and associates of the Institute of Molecular Medicine and has signed several protocols with other Portuguese institutions, such as the Gulbenkian Institute of Science, National Statistics Institute, Dr. Ricardo Jorge National Institute of Health and the Higher Technical Institute. FMUL participates in the national programme with the Harvard Medical School and through the IMM, in the context of the Academic Medical Center, with INSERM.
Medical and Biomedical Research
Research at FMUL takes place at the University’s Institutes, Laboratories and Clinics, as well as in Specialised Study Centres. The Institute of Molecular Medicine (IMM), operating in the Egas Moniz Building is a consortium in which the Faculty participates with other partners. It is exclusively composed of research units classified as Excellent or Very Good in periodic external scientific evaluations and has made important contributions to research in biomedical sciences and to the development of Translational Medicine.
