12 November, as part of the Junior Doctors International Meeting
The organization of the Junior Doctors International Meeting invited Professor Gorjão Clara, Coordinator of the University Geriatrics Unit [UUG], to participate in this event by organizing a basic course in geriatrics.
This invitation was very well accepted because the gains are manifold and include: sharing with younger people knowledge in an area undergoing rapid expansion in Portugal, such as geriatrics; publicizing the geriatrics unit of Pulido Valente Hospital, which was pioneer in the country and acted as a guideline for other centres; alerting young doctors and students to the particularities of elderly patients, focusing on the major geriatric syndromes.
The UUG team is coordinated by Professor Gorjão Clara, with the collaboration of Dr Sofia Duque and a wide range of volunteers, including doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, social workers, gerontologists, and psychologists.
