11th WORKSHOP “EDUCATION THROUGH SCIENCE”

On December 2nd last the 11th “Education through Science” workshop was held at the FMUL, organised by the GAPIC. This event dedicated to scientific research carried out by undergraduate students had about ninety participants, including students, teachers and researchers.
Present at the opening session were the President of the Scientific Council, Professor H. Bicha Castelo, the Coordinator of the GAPIC, Professor Ana Sebastião, and the President of the Students’ Association, Gonçalo Envia.
Over the four workshops sessions there was the presenting and public discussion of the results of the 21 research projects carried out within the 11th “Education through Science” programme by 35 students, in 11 research units at the FMUL, during the 2007/2008 academic year (www.fm.ul.pt/Educacao_Ciencia).
This event also included a session dedicated to the presenting of the results of the project “Genetics of Cerebro-Vascular Accidents”, carried out within the 3rd AstraZeneca Foundation / FMUL Research Award, by Dr. Liliana Gouveia.
One of the highlights of the event was the talk “Registers of Truth: Scientific Truth and Other Truths” delivered by Professor Michel Renaud of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences.
