Take On is the result of a partnership between FMUL's GAE (Student Support Office) and AEFML's DRAS (Department of Responsibility and Social Welfare).
This project was created with the aim of fostering interest in social and environmental responsibility among the FMUL Community and making students aware of it. It promotes various activities, different resources and innovative forms of action that foster environmental and social well-being by helping the community they belong to.
During the academic year, one-off and continuous actions will take place in both the Social and the Environmental areas. Thus, with the activism and proactivity inherent to students, they will make a difference!
- Over the next few weeks, from 29 November 10 December, Take On is organizing several activities within the scope of Giving Tuesday, namely:
- Blood donation campaign aimed at the FMUL and non-FMUL community, in cooperation with the Blood Collection Unit of Santa Maria Hospital.
This is not, however, the first Take On! Throughout this semester, the project has organized several activities.
- On 23 October, together with the Environmental Health Institute, the Students´ Association of the Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon , and the Blue Flag Association of Europe, Take On participated in a beach cleaning initiative in Costa da Caparica, which brought together about 50 volunteers.
- Still on the theme of environmental responsibility, the project included a Round Table on Environmental Migrants, held on 26 October. The Round Table was attended by association leaders from the IFMSA (International Federation of Medical Students Associations), who brought to the debate the Human Rights and Public Health component of the problem of climate refugees, as well as by specialists in migration and climatology from the Centre for Geographical Studies. They discussed the consequences of climate change in Europe, and, in particular, in Portugal.
- During November, Take On, in collaboration with DRAS, participated in the volunteer fair on 5 November, with a focus on animal volunteering, making known União Zoofila, Associação Animals de Rua and the Iberian Wolf Recovery Centre. There was also a lecture with testimonials about volunteer work at the Iberian Wolf Recovery Centre.
This project’s activities go beyond working in the field! We intend to disclose them on social media and posts to make students aware of problems within the theme of environmental social responsibility and suggest alternative solutions that everyone can do on a day-to-day basis that will make a difference to make the world a little better.
Do you want to know more about this wonderful new project? Pay attention to the social media where all information about the initiatives organized by Take On will be disclosed.
